The Huffington Post: The Rub in Education: Federal v. Local Control

Among recent top stories: the Obama Administration’s move to remake K-12 education policy and significantly strengthen the hand of the federal government in the process. While policymakers on both sides of the aisle have been talking more than acting, the Administration has been diligently preparing its battle plans for an overhaul of No Child Left Behind. And it looks like they’re about to do an end run around the Congress.

Rachel, thank you for this cisnoce survey of the damage excessive federal regulation does to not just education as an institution but to the actual children in public schools. As an educator, it pains me to see so much money that could be used for instructional staff and materials spent instead on meeting federal regulations. Surely many members of Congress have school-age children do they not see the effects the laws they pass have on their own sons and daughters?
